Year of the Lord

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord." Luke 4:18-19

Mission Statement

Our mission is to encourage all members of the Body of Christ to become full participants in the life of the Church by dedicating 2,000 hours to the Lord.

Perceived Problem

It is perceived that, over the last 40 years, many individuals have drifted away from the Church. Many return upon marriage and starting a family. Some return for other reasons, however, some do not return for many years and some never find their way back to the Church.

Proposed Project

The proposed project is intended to engage the interest of youth, young adults, canidates for Confirmation, those making retreats and those returning to the Church after an absence. The process would provide them with an incentive and opportunities to have positive experiences in the Church, to develop a prayer life, to continue with their religious education as an adult, to actively participate in their local parish community and to engage in meaningful community service both within the Church and in civic life. In addition, it is noted that today’s youth and young adults, as well as many of the more mature community, are constantly engaged in communications via the Internet and other e-media. It is considered essential that a fully interactive website and other electronic media that allows a virtual community to develop be provided.

Why 2000 Hours?

The standard work week in the United States is 40 hours. 40 hours times 50 weeks is 2000 hours, which is many industries is considered a standard work year. Also, most people work approximately 40 years and 1 hour per week for 40 years is approximately 2000 hours.

Goals

Our long term goals are

1. To develop a tool to document hours dedicated to the Lord.

2. To develop a presentation to introduce our project and our tool to the target audience

3. To co-ordinate with diocesan and parish programs and organizations to explain our project and distribute our tool

4 To develop a website to a) promote and explain the goals of our project and our tool and b) to act as a meeting place for those participating in our project and using our tool.

Objectives

Our current objectives are:

1. To develop a working draft of a record-keeping tool for testing and evaluation.

2. To contact key people who are able to introduce our project personnel to the diocesan and parish leaders who have the ability to approve our tool for use in their organization or program.

3. To investigate means of obtaining hosting of a website and providing content and accessibility to the website.

4. To develop a marketing plan to promote our project, our tool and our website.

5. To develop a business plan to determine costs for the production and distribution of the tool, for the maintenance and development of the website and to obtain funding for the project.
